happy birthday sistaaaaaa!

my sister is 30 today. damn, beeyotch, you's OLD! ;)

our parents just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this january, and it amazes me at how long we've actually been sibs. we've seen each other through countless highs and lows - her bat mitzvah, my first wedding, her high school and college graduations, the birth of the kid, all of her boyfriends, my divorce, etc. she even had a hand in me and the hub getting together - she gave him quite the kick in the ass.

i know you're reading this, sista - do you remember the gift from me and the ex when you left home to head off for college? [crying with laughter]

how about the bakersfield blaze? ["margaritaville" starts playing in my head]

and how grumpy we were at
the happiest fucking place on earth that next day?

i even remember the first time we met - when you were, like 7. we played stupid ass games and crawled around the house and we had a good ol' time.

and not long after that, i entered my rebellious teenager phase and you were just the little shit who was always around - and i was so mean, i knew which buttons to push with you and i pressed 'em as often as i could get away with. ha!

we were bridesmaids in each other's weddings (she was actually in both of mine). and she was one of the first to visit the bean at home. we hung out constantly during my one year of being single, and then when the hub and i were dating, we were like the three musketeers. we even went on a road trip together - to carmel, monterey, san francisco, napa/sonoma, pismo beach - it was a week and by the end of it we were ready to kill each other ;) not really, but you know what i mean.

she was the first one i told when i suffered a miscarriage before the bean was a bean. and we've comforted each other through all sorts of other happy and sad occasions. now that we're grown-ups with crazy, hectic schedules, we don't get to see each other all that much anymore, but i think of her often, and hope life's treating her well.

and now it's time for some pictures! the really good ones (read: all the old, really embarrassing ones) are at the folks' house, but these'll do.

happy, happy 30th, sista. i love ya.

  5. Awww...that brought a tear my sista. That was the most touching birthday gift ever.
And there is only one word to describe the going away to college gift...EWWWWWWWW. The Bakersfield Blaze/Didneyland weekend is one of my very favorite memories of us being dorks. We were such STALKERS...good think caller ID wasn't so prevalent in those days. :) I'm laughing my butt off right now...thanks for the amazing post (and the good laugh). Love ya too!
