well, yes, of course i can! muahahahahaha!
after the usual madness at gymboree, the bean and i picked up some flowers and sweet treats at trader joe's to take over to my friend yapster's house. it was our first meeting to discuss our 20-year high school reunion (yeah, i'm still in shock over that one, really), and i knew she was providing lunch, so i didn't want to show up empty-handed.
cornell, the other committee member who was able to come on a tuesday afternoon was already there, and she was just as friendly and hilarious as she was in high school. i always remember her as being one of my favorite people in our class - she was really sweet, smart, and a straight shooter. you could always rely on cornell to tell you like it is. man, was she a crack-up! it was wonderful to see that she hadn't changed a bit.
we had fun munching, chatting, and going over the box of stuff that yapster had saved from our 10-year reunion. this girl is seriously one of the most organized people i've ever known, and it came as no surprise when she busted out lists we'd used to plan that party, along with the old checkbook from the bank account we'd opened for it, leftover flyers, envelopes, programs, etc. she makes it so easy to pick up where we left off.
when we left, i made a quick pitstop at coffee bean (their new yogurt ice blended is fucking gross, btw) and then we headed home. we spent the next couple of hours relaxing and playing, and then the hub arrived to hang out with the bean while i went out to dinner with my cousin r and our buddy k.
the three of us always make it a point to get together whenever r is home, to chat and giggle and just hang out. these GTGs started one night years ago, when we had a girls' night at my house and hung out on the front porch, laughing for hours. so from that night on, we dubbed these evenings "porch night." because we're just creative like that.
we decided to make it a low-key evening, choosing to pick up a ridiculous amount of food at alberto's (i'm amused to see, from that link, that i'm not the only one who constantly mixes up the name of this place - is it alberto's? alfredo's?). between the three of us, we picked up an order of super fries (the best thing EVER - fries covered with cheese, guacamole, sour cream and chunks of carne asada), carne asada tortas for me and r, and chicken and carne asada tacos for k. r threw in an order for some horchata, and even though i'd already put in my request for a large coke, i decided to get some too.
hey, they were going to be drinking drinking, and since i don't do alcohol, i felt totally justified in bringing home TWO beverages. heh.
and we were amused to see that there were four forks in the bag, as if to say "all this food has GOT to be for one more person." but we picked up those forks and made short work of those super fries. we seriously didn't stop till they were all gone.

oh, lest i forget - we also went to beard papa's to pick up some sweet treats. honestly, we probably wouldn't have, since it was way out of our way to get there, but once k admitted that she'd never even heard of beard papa's, let alone tried their delectable cream puffs (blasphemy!), the car practically drove itself. yup. and when we got there, we somehow talked ourselves into picking up a box of a full DOZEN of these yummies - half vanilla, half strawberry. hey, we'd invited some other friends to join us at the house, and so we figured we'd have something to offer them. besides, that way, no one risked losing a limb by attempting to poke their way into our super fries.
after the very friendly guys at beard papa's filled our order, something caught our eye - a cream puff that looked slightly different from the rest. the guys called it the "cookie crisp" puff - it had little pieces of sugar cookie baked on the top. well, come ON. what else were we to do? we tossed in an order for two of those, too.
as we drove back to k's, excitedly chattering about the fabulous dinner we were about to partake in, r and i savored our cold, sweet horchata drinks, and the cheesy jokes were in full effect (hence, the title of this entry). hi-lar-ee-yus.
it was the first time that we'd been to k's place, and it's a cute little house that's absolutely perfect for her. she recently adopted an adorable yellow lab puppy she named leila (sorry, k, if i butchered the spelling), who spent the evening nibbling on our fingers, giving us the puppy-dog eyes, and running around the yard. she was quite entertaining.
a couple of friends, along with a couple of k's cousins and my own cousin, lakerboy, joined us, and it was a fun evening of hanging out on the front porch, shooting the shit, watching them down bottles of michelob, and munching on cream puffs. and then after the boys left, we went inside the house and spent another solid hour chatting and laughing before i finally rolled out at midnight. yikes. i'd even told the hub, "oh, it won't be a late night, we're just hanging out at k's house." i'm sure he knew better, anyway.
and now i'm officially addicted to super fries. sweet heaven, those were fantastic. i don't know how i never tried those before, but i'm drooling just remembering 'em. mmmmmmm.
I got home at 11:30 p.m. yesterday, but what a different day I had -- work, lecture at the Hammer Museum, and discussion about the lecture during an Italian dinner.
