soldiering on

i don't even remember what i was looking at that led me to this tutorial for a clay pot soldier. and i'm not sure why i felt like i had to make it, but i just did.

the teen and i headed to michaels to pick up the stuff we needed, and then it sat around for a couple of weeks before we finally decided it was time. the bean got in on the action too, and she was full of questions as we set everything up on the table.

"what are those?"
"why do you have so many of them?"
"why are there some big ones and some little ones?"
"what do i get to do?"

you get the idea.

i poured paint into some paper bowls, handed her a foam brush, and let her go to town.

the teen had fun too, whether she wants to admit it or not.

the paint dried pretty quickly, and all of the pots were done in no time.

using a combo of hot glue and krazy glue, some googly eyes, an old belt (which was a total bitch to punch a hole through), and a few other supplies, we assembled the pots until we had this:

and his little brother, for inside the house.

all we need now is our tree, and we'll be totally ready for christmas. it's gonna be over before we know it.
