i was scrolling through instagram one afternoon (shocker) and came across a post from nick jonas promoting his newest movie called “the good half.” the cast included other familiar faces like elisabeth shue, david arquette, brittany snow. and they were going to do a red carpet premiere at the saban theater in beverly hills. i clicked through and found that the event was open to the public - and you know what that means.
the old lady and i headed on out to the west side on a tuesday evening and got to the theater with plenty of time to spare before showtime.
it was pretty crowded in there, with lots of press and some of the cast already behind the ropes posing for photos and doing interviews.
there was even a booth offering movie merch. i guess they know jonas fans are all about the merch, amirite?
we cruised past the bar area, which was just as crowded, and decided to head upstairs to get a better view of all the action.
there’s david arquette and elisabeth shue:
brittany snow:
it was kind of funny to see people posing for photos with an assistant off to one side with their name on a whiteboard so that the photographers knew exactly who they were shooting and what they had to do with the movie. they probably do this at every red carpet event, but i don’t really attend enough of them to know.
the old lady spotted jeremy piven in the crowd, but since he wasn’t listed as part of the cast he must have just been there to support.
and then we sensed some commotion coming from behind us and when we turned around, it was nick and priyanka with an entourage. we learned later via instagram that they’d been hanging out on the rooftop taking pictures and waiting to make their entrance.
the full cast gathered to take group photos.
we were wondering if any of nick’s brothers were going to make an appearance, so we weren’t surprised to see the “bonus jonas” frankie - all grown up with a sizable fanbase of his own.
we watched as nick was interviewed by “entertainment tonight” and then headed on into the theater to grab seats for the movie.
eventually, the seats below us filled up as the cast and crew and their families came in. but it kept getting later and later, and then they announced that there were technical difficulties with the projector. ugh. so to kill time, they decided to bring the cast up on stage to do the q&a portion - which was really awkward and weird for them all because they couldn’t talk about the movie before we got to see it.
the old lady had an early morning the next day, and as we were waiting we’d decided that if they couldn’t get their shit together by a certain time, we were going to have to leave. of course, that time came and went - and so we ended up having to head home without getting to see the dang movie. and of course, as we walked out of the theater they made the announcement that the projector had finally been fixed and the movie was going to start. UGH.
i heard just last week that the movie was finally released for streaming, so open your hulu app and watch “the good half,” i guess. i haven’t seen it yet, so if you do and then you hate it don’t blame me. i didn’t make it.
